Bail Bondsman Arrested After Having Wrong Woman Nabbed

Seems as though some bail bondsmen not only post bail bonds for others, but may need to be bailed out of jail themselves. A bail bondsman with Abingdon Bail Bonds in Bristol Virginia, may find himself in just that position. J.C. Mullins Jr. received a license suspension on Nov. 23 from the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services. This Department which licenses bail bondsmen and women in Virginia, enacted the suspension without a formal hearing. The suspension relates to allegations that 3 people masqueraded as drug agents to apprehend a woman thought to have skipped a court hearing.

Once the woman was apprehended she was given to the custody of J.C. Mullins. Mr. Mullins apparently then had the woman jailed at the Bristol Virgina Jail. The jail however released the woman after determining that she was not the person Mr. Mullins thought she was.

When originally questioned by authorities about the "arrest" of the misidentified woman, Mr. Mullins claimed to be unfamiliar with the trio that apprehended her. Law enforcement officials blame this lack of cooperation in obstructing and delaying their investigation. As a result, Mr. Mullins had a hearing in Bristol General District Court for a misdemeanor charge of obstruction of justice.

According to the Bristol Herald Courier, "Officers eventually arrested Donna Fitzwater, of Bristol, Tenn., Dwayne Peters, of Greeneville, Tenn., and Stacy Matthew Herndon, of Lebanon, Va. Each is charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer, while Peters and Herndon also are charged with robbery and abduction. Herndon also is charged with object sexual penetration."

The moral of the story is that like with everything in life, there are good people and there are bad people. When choosing a Las Vegas bail bondsman it is important to trust the character, integrity and ethics of the person that will be responsible for you during the course of a court proceeding.
